Saka sends Arsenal to first Champions League final in 20 years

— Match Report

Arsenal reached their first Champions League final for 20 years as Bukayo Saka's goal was enough to see Mikel Arteta's side past Atletico Madrid 2-1 on aggregate at the Emirates Stadium. With the tie locked at 1-1 from the first leg, the Gunners produced a controlled, defensively resolute display to book a meeting with either Bayern Munich or Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest on 30 May.

Saka turned home the decisive goal just before half-time after Jan Oblak had parried a Leandro Trossard shot, with Viktor Gyokeres heavily involved in the build-up. Atletico had their moments, twice carved open by Giuliano Simeone, but Declan Rice and Gabriel Magalhaes intervened at vital moments to preserve Arsenal's lead and a ninth clean sheet in 14 European games this season.

A tense start under the Emirates lights

With the scores level on aggregate after last week's draw in Madrid, there was a cagey opening as both sides probed without creating clear-cut chances. Arsenal were on the front foot in the first half and three times slipped in behind, only for Atletico either to clear or to lock up the middle. Antoine Griezmann and Giuliano Simeone offered Atletico's early flickers, with Julian Alvarez shooting wide under pressure after a low Simeone cross.
