Jack Rudoni struck in the 94th minute to give Championship leaders Coventry City a dramatic 2-1 victory over Stoke City and extend their lead at the summit. The midfielder capitalised on a late mistake from goalkeeper Tommy Simkin to secure a fourth consecutive win for Frank Lampard's side, who move eight points clear of second-placed Middlesbrough, with Boro not in action until their trip to Birmingham on Monday.
Haji Wright had headed Coventry in front after 12 minutes, only for Ben Gibson to level on the stroke of half-time with what proved to be Stoke's only shot on target. That appeared set to earn Mark Robins' team a hard-fought point until Rudoni, who has been in prolific form, pounced at the death to leave the visitors nursing another late defeat and still with just one victory in their last nine matches.
Wright's early header crowns dominant Coventry opening
Back on home soil for the first time since their crucial 3-1 victory over Middlesbrough, in which Wright scored a hat-trick, Coventry began with the assurance of a side sitting top of the table. It took the American forward just 12 minutes to extend his outstanding run, rising to meet Jay Dasilva's sublime cross and nod past Simkin. The goal, a firm header into the net, was Wright's 15th of the season and made it five in his last four outings.
