West Bromwich Albion beat Rotherham United 4-1 at the AESSEAL New York Stadium to reach the second round of the League Cup; Rotherham's run in this season's competition ends at the first round.

Jimmy-Jay Morgan opened the scoring for West Brom in the 7th minute, and Harry Whitwell made it 2-0 in the 23rd. Whitwell was replaced by Felix Myhre at half-time, and Myhre struck in the 54th minute before Morgan's second goal, in the 60th, put West Brom 4-0 up; Morgan was substituted four minutes later, replaced by Mikey Johnston. Fábio André Tavares Desidério pulled one back for Rotherham in the 86th minute.

Two Rotherham players were booked in the closing stages: substitute Brandon Cover, on since the 55th minute, in the 77th, and scorer Tavares Desidério in the 91st. Both captains were withdrawn before full time: West Brom's Alex Mowatt in the 72nd minute, Rotherham's Paul Mullin in the 61st. West Brom finished with 71% possession and 18 shots, ten on target, to Rotherham's eight shots, two on target.
