Goalscoring Danish defender Mathias Ross broke the deadlock with a header which smashed off the underside of the bar from Ronan Curtis's 57th-minute corner from the left, settling a contest between two sides chasing the same prize.

The best moves of the first half both involved Argyle winger Curtis. He nearly broke the deadlock just before half-time with a deft ball in from the right which forced Boro keeper Filip Marschall to tip over his bar at the far post.
