Robertson Brace Not Enough As Battling Burton Hold League Leaders Cardiff

· Match Report

Cardiff City saw their lead at the top of League One shrink to two points as a battling Burton Albion fought back for a 2-2 draw at the Pirelli Stadium. Alex Robertson's second-half brace had put the Bluebirds in control after Jake Beesley gave the hosts a surprise early lead, but Kyran Lofthouse levelled late to claim a point that could prove valuable for The Brewers.

It was an entertaining contest in which the league leaders were made to work for their point against opponents fighting at the wrong end of the table. Despite the draw, Burton dropped into the relegation zone after Rotherham won against Exeter City.

Beesley's Acrobatic Opener

Albion grabbed the lead after 11 minutes when Alex Hartridge's long throw unsettled the Cardiff defence and the ball eventually sat up nicely for Jake Beesley to crash home with a bicycle kick. The 29-year-old's strike brought him up to 10 goals for the season and left the visitors chasing an equaliser.
