Emil Riis scored twice as Bristol City came from behind to beat Hull City 4-2 in a breathless Championship contest at Ashton Gate. The Dane struck twice before half-time, with Anis Mehmeti and substitute Max Bird also on target as Gerhard Struber's side overturned Joe Gelhardt's early opener.
Kyle Joseph's stoppage-time strike reduced the deficit, but by then Bristol City were in full control after a display that showcased both their attacking power and Hull's vulnerability in possession. The result maintains the Robins' unbeaten start to the season and lifts them into the play-off places, while leaving Hull to reflect on a game in which they were repeatedly punished for mistakes in their own half despite posing a constant threat going forward.
Gelhardt's early chip ignites a frantic first half
Hull stunned the home crowd inside three minutes. A heavy touch from Bristol City defender Rob Atkinson invited pressure, allowing David Akintola to steal possession high up the pitch and slip the ball into Gelhardt's path. The forward showed tremendous composure, lifting a deft chip over the advancing Radek Vitek to give the visitors a dream start.
