Reading thrashed Mansfield Town 5-0 at the Select Car Leasing Stadium in League One matchday four, with a first-half salvo settling the contest before the break.
Jack Marriott opened the scoring in the 34th minute, Benn Ward doubled the lead in the 39th and George Earthy made it three in the 43rd, sending Reading in 3-0 up at half-time. Marriott added his second in the 57th minute and Jacob Brown completed the scoring in the 79th.
Reading goalkeeper Joel Pereira was the only player booked, cautioned in the 71st minute for time wasting; no player was sent off. Mansfield made two substitutions at the interval and used all five of their changes across the match, while Reading brought on Brown and Randell Williams just after the hour.
The win lifts Reading to 14th in League One on four points from three games, with one win, one draw and one defeat. Mansfield slip to 12th on six points from four games, with two wins and two defeats.
