Reading led by two goals at half-time but were overhauled by Luton Town, who came from behind to win 4-3 at the Select Car Leasing Stadium on the opening day of the League One season.
Jake Richards put Luton ahead inside six minutes, but Reading responded in emphatic fashion: Jack Marriott levelled in the seventh minute, then struck twice more in the 30th and 37th to complete a first-half hat-trick and send the hosts in 3-1 up at the interval.
Luton regrouped after the break. Kasey Palmer pulled one back in the 49th minute and levelled it two minutes later, before Gideon Kodua struck in the 95th minute to complete the turnaround and settle it 4-3.
Liam Walsh (71') and Paudie O'Connor (94') were both booked during the second-half surge, and Kodua picked up a yellow of his own moments after his winner, for excessive celebration. Both sides used all five of their substitutes.
