Rangers sign Aston Villa right-back Kosta Nedeljkovic on loan

Rangers have signed the Aston Villa right-back Kosta Nedeljkovic on a season-long loan, with a £4m obligation to buy the Serbia international worked into the deal based on the number of appearances he makes.

The 20-year-old joined Villa from Red Star Belgrade in January 2024 but made only ten appearances for the club, spending two loan spells in between at RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga, where knee and back injuries limited him to six appearances last season.

It is understood Rangers saw off competition from other clubs for Nedeljkovic, who held talks with the manager, Derek McInnes, and his Serbia team-mate Vanja Dragojevic before completing the move. The loan is Rangers' 11th signing of the summer and takes McInnes's squad into a right-back area already shared this season by Dragojevic, Dujon Sterling and Ross McCrorie.

"I am very excited, Rangers is such a big club, a big family and I am excited to join and help the team have success together," Nedeljkovic said. "For me, it was an easy decision after meeting with the coach, I only wanted Rangers. It is a big opportunity and a big responsibility. I always try to be positive and work hard so I am ready to help the team."
