Preston have signed the French midfielder Leo Leroy from Basel on a three-year deal, bolstering Paul Heckingbottom's midfield options ahead of the new Championship season.
The 26-year-old arrives after two seasons in the Swiss Super League with Basel, where he won the league title and the Swiss Cup and featured in both the Champions League and the Europa League, scoring four goals in 81 appearances. He previously played in Ligue 1 for Montpellier.
Heckingbottom said Leroy will bring quality, calmness and experience to Deepdale as Preston push for promotion. "He's a good technical player, with great experience and someone who's comfortable getting on the ball in deeper positions, but also someone who likes to join the attacks as well," the Preston boss said.
Leroy is the latest addition to a busy Deepdale summer that has also brought in Alfie Devine from Tottenham for a fee understood to be in the region of £6m. Preston finished 14th in the Championship last season and open the new campaign away at Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.
