Preston North End and Queens Park Rangers shared a 1-1 draw at Deepdale in a game that swung from a landmark moment for Brad Potts to a deeply unfortunate late equaliser. Potts marked his 250th Preston appearance by putting the hosts ahead a minute into the second half, only for substitute Thierry Small to slice a clearance into his own net with eight minutes remaining.
The result extended Preston's unbeaten run to three matches and QPR's to four, but it did little to transform either side's position in the Championship table. Rangers, whose three straight wins had revived outside play-off hopes, stayed 12th and seven points off the top six with five games left, while Preston remained 14th and 10 points adrift.
Preston's sharper opening gives them the edge
For all the late drama, the first half was a drab affair for long spells, and it was Preston who carried the greater intent. Alfie Devine was at the heart of their better moments, first seeing a shot from 25 yards deflected narrowly wide before setting up Ben Whiteman just outside the area, only for the midfielder to pull his effort over the bar.
