Portsmouth have signed the Brentford centre-back Benjamin Arthur on a season-long loan. The 20-year-old joins the Championship club after spending part of last season on loan in the Scottish Premiership with Celtic, where he made six appearances.
Arthur has made three senior appearances for Brentford, including two starts in the League Cup, and has been capped by England up to Under-20 level. During his loan spell at Celtic in January, the then Celtic manager Martin O'Neill described him as "an excellent player, with real attributes, good height, strength and speed."
Portsmouth manager John Mousinho said: "We're thrilled to bring Benjamin here for the season to boost our defensive ranks. He possesses all the attributes you expect of a centre-back and is also more than comfortable with the ball at his feet."
"Despite his relatively young age, he already has experience of top-flight football, and we feel he can be a real asset as we look to progress in our third season in the Championship," Mousinho added.
