Queens Park Rangers began the Championship season with a 3-1 win at Portsmouth, scoring three times in a rampant first half at Fratton Park.
Terry Devlin gave Portsmouth an early lead in the 14th minute, but Queens Park Rangers responded through Ilias Chair (32') and Koki Saito (39') before Chair added his second, and QPR's third, in first-half stoppage time to make it 3-1 at the break.
QPR's Ronnie Edwards was booked for a foul in the 24th minute, the only card of the afternoon. Portsmouth had the greater share of possession (54%) and more shots overall (17 to 13) but could not find a way back after the interval.
Portsmouth made five substitutions after the break as they searched for a route into the game, including a double change on the 71st minute. QPR made five changes of their own, one forced by injury as early as the 19th minute.
