Port Vale and Crewe Alexandra, local rivals, shared a goalless draw in League Two, with chances at both ends and neither goalkeeper beaten. It was Crewe's third straight clean sheet in the league.
Neither side could claim to be the clear winner of the afternoon. Crewe had more attempts, 14 to 11, but Port Vale had four shots on target to the visitors' three, and had the greater share of the ball, 60% to 40%.
A Cagey First Half in the Rain
Rain came down throughout a scrappy first half with little in the way of clear chances. Jackson Smith saved from Crewe's Jordan Gibson early on, while Vale defender Jordan Gabriel sent a long-range effort wide.
