Plymouth Comeback Win Not Enough as Play-off Dream Dies on Final Day

· Match Report

Plymouth Argyle missed out on the League One play-offs despite coming from two goals down to beat relegated Northampton Town 3-2 on a dramatic final day of the season.

The Pilgrims needed to win their final game and hope both Stevenage and Luton Town dropped points to make the top six. Argyle trailed 2-0 after 18 minutes at Sixfields but were back level by half-time and won it thanks to substitute Brendan Wiredu 15 minutes from time.

Northampton Strike Twice in Five Minutes

Owen Dale missed a glorious chance to give Plymouth a lead inside 90 seconds, side-footing wide at the back post, and Northampton responded by scoring twice in five minutes.
