Plymouth Argyle's League One season began with defeat, beaten 3-1 at home by Stockport County at Home Park on the opening Saturday of the campaign.
Stockport were 2-0 up inside the first half hour, Jack Diamond scoring in the 12th minute and Kyle Wootton doubling the lead in the 25th, before Ryan Glover made it three three minutes into the second half. Xavier Amaechi, on as a 56th-minute substitute for Matthew Sorinola, pulled one back for Argyle in the 78th minute, but the hosts could not complete the comeback.
It came three days after Argyle had beaten Devon rivals Exeter City in the Carabao Cup first round, and head coach Tom Cleverley called the result "a really painful defeat."
"Everyone's hurting inside that dressing room," he said after the match. "We've had a lot of optimism around the place for a long time and that wasn't the start to the league campaign that we all planned."
