In a dramatic finish at a rain-soaked Kassam Stadium, Oxford United substitute Przemyslaw Placheta struck deep into stoppage time to earn a 2-2 draw and deny Championship promotion contenders Millwall all three points.
Millwall had twice gone in front, through Thierno Ballo in the 11th minute and Jake Cooper midway through the second half, but an Oxford side battling to pull clear of the relegation zone refused to fold. Cameron Brannagan's brilliant strike on the stroke of half-time and Placheta's late intervention meant Gary Rowett took a point against his former club, who are firmly in the promotion race under Alex Neil.
Oxford's Fast Start Undone by Ballo's Breakthrough
Buoyed by last weekend's victory at Sheffield Wednesday, Oxford began on the front foot. Three long throws from Will Vaulks in the opening exchanges caused early anxiety in the Millwall box, Dutch midfielder Brian De Keersmaecker drew a simple save from former U's goalkeeper Max Crocombe with a low drive, and the visitors found themselves penned back as the rain began to fall.
