Przemyslaw Placheta came off the bench to score a superb solo winner as Oxford United beat Ipswich Town 2-1, climbing out of the Championship relegation zone and halting the visitors' charge towards the automatic promotion places. The substitute latched on to Brian De Keersmaecker's precise ball from deep and, with one expert touch and a calm finish past Christian Walton, settled a contest Ipswich had largely controlled.
Mark Harris had earlier fired in his first goal of the season after pouncing on Azor Matusiwa's error, only for Leif Davis's cushioned volley from a rehearsed corner routine to draw Ipswich level early in the second half. Kieran McKenna's side finished with 73% of the possession and 18 shots but lacked the clinical edge that has underpinned their recent away form, while Oxford, with just 27% of the ball, made their rare openings count to secure a first win in six games and move up to 19th in the table.
Early Ipswich control overturned by Harris's opportunism
Ipswich arrived on the back of three straight away victories and immediately imposed themselves, moving the ball confidently and pinning Oxford back for long spells. It was the visitors who created the game's first clear openings, with Sindre Egeli firing low past the post from 15 yards after being found by Davis's pass.
