Ipswich Town claimed a narrow but precious 1-0 victory over Stoke City at Portman Road, thanks to a stunning early strike from Jaden Philogene. The winger, a former loanee with the Potters, found the top corner inside the opening two minutes to secure back-to-back wins for Kieran McKenna's side and consolidate their place in the Championship's top six, lifting them up to fourth.
Stoke, who slipped to their third defeat on the trot and down to eighth, responded with long spells of controlled possession and some bright moments in the final third, but they could not find a way past Christian Walton. While Ipswich created the game's clearest chances on the counter, particularly through Ivan Azon and Marcelino Nunez, the visitors repeatedly failed to find the decisive final pass or finish to match Philogene's moment of inspiration.
Philogene Strikes Early Against His Old Club
Energetic from the off, Ipswich struck with their first attack of the evening. Leif Davis combined with Philogene down the left, before the winger drifted inside and exchanged passes with Nunez on the edge of the area. Collecting the return ball, Philogene opened his body and curled an exquisite shot into the top left corner beyond a despairing Viktor Johansson, netting his seventh goal of the season and punishing the club where he once spent time on loan.
