Real Betis began their return to the Champions League with a 3-2 win at Lille, twice coming from behind before Troy Parrott scored the winner in the 52nd minute. Lille's night worsened three minutes later when Ethan Mbappé was sent off, and Betis saw the game out.
Parrott, a 24-year-old Republic of Ireland forward, was making his Champions League debut. It was his second winning goal in four days, after he scored the only goal in Betis' league victory over Real Madrid last Friday. Betis were back in the competition after a 21-year absence.
