Palmer and Rogers inspire Chelsea from two down to a 6-3 win over Leeds

· Match Report

Chelsea came from two goals down to beat Leeds United 6-3 in the Carabao Cup third round, scoring six times in the second half after Xabi Alonso sent on four substitutes at the interval.

Tarik Muharemovic and Brenden Aaronson put the visitors 2-0 up inside 47 minutes against a Chelsea side that had been changed nine times from the weekend defeat to Arsenal. Cole Palmer, introduced at half-time, then scored twice in two minutes, and Pedro Neto, Danny Welbeck, Valentín Barco and a second from Welbeck did the rest, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin replying for Leeds in between.

A First Half Chelsea Would Rather Forget

Leeds made eight changes of their own and were the better side for the opening 45 minutes. Mike Penders saved well from Muharemovic and Aaronson in quick succession, but could not stop Muharemovic heading in Harry Wilson's corner at the far post in the 22nd minute. Chelsea barely threatened, and the second goal came shortly after the restart, when Barco lost possession and Ethan Ampadu and Lukas Nmecha combined to set up Aaronson.
