Substitute Joao Palhinha prodded in a scrappy 82nd-minute winner as Tottenham edged a fraught, low-quality contest 1-0 at already relegated Wolves to claim their first Premier League victory of 2026. It was Spurs' first league win in 16 matches and ended a run that, had it continued, would have equalled the club record of 16 consecutive league games without a win set in 1934-35.
Yet the three points failed to lift Roberto De Zerbi's side clear of danger. West Ham's dramatic late win over Everton, sealed by Callum Wilson in injury time, left Tottenham in 18th place, two points from safety and third from bottom with four games remaining as they try to avoid a first top-flight relegation since 1977. Wolves, whose own relegation was confirmed on Monday night, pushed Spurs all the way and were denied at the death only by a brilliant Antonin Kinsky save.
A Drab First Half Short on Quality
The nerves from the visitors were obvious as they chased a first top-flight win since December, and although Spurs dominated possession they desperately lacked quality in a forgettable opening period played at a tempo that belied the urgency of their situation. Randal Kolo Muani, preferred again by De Zerbi despite just one league goal all season, fired well wide in the 12th minute after a mistake by Andre, and Pedro Porro sent an effort wayward soon after which halted Tottenham's momentum.
