Oxford United earned a 2-1 victory away at Leicester City, claiming their maiden win under recently-appointed boss Matt Bloomfield and intensifying the pressure on under-fire Foxes boss Marti Cifuentes. Goals from defender Sam Long and striker Mark Harris gave the visitors control, and although Abdul Fatawu struck late for Leicester, it was not enough to prevent another disappointing league result for the hosts.
The U's struck after just four minutes when Myles Peart-Harris launched a long throw from the right, Ciaron Brown flicked it on at the near post and Long stabbed in from close range. Leicester's own attacking play was sporadic, and their first real opening came from a corner that fell to Stephy Mavididi, who curled over from just outside the penalty area.
Oxford remained a threat throughout, seeing a Peart-Harris header ruled out for a foul before half-time and creating further chances for Stanley Mills and Peart-Harris after the break. Harris eventually doubled the lead on 71 minutes at the end of a rapid counter-attack from a Leicester corner, and while Fatawu's 84th-minute finish halved the deficit, Bloomfield's side held on for a first away league win since October, stretching their unbeaten run to three games since Bloomfield's appointment and leaving Leicester winless in their last three league matches.
