Milutin Osmajic's 85th-minute winner gave Preston North End a deserved 2-1 victory over Leicester City at Deepdale, on an afternoon when teenage substitute Jeremy Monga made history for the visitors. Alfie Devine had put Preston in front early on, Monga produced a record-breaking equaliser midway through the second half, but Osmajic atoned for earlier misses to ensure the hosts claimed all three points.
The result maintains Preston's unbeaten league start and inflicts Leicester's first Championship defeat since their return to the division. While the Foxes unearthed a new star in 16-year-old Monga, they were second best for long spells, undone by a mixture of defensive errors and Preston's refusal to settle for a draw in front of a buoyant home crowd.
Devine Punishes Stolarczyk's Rush to Give Preston the Perfect Start
Preston seized control inside seven minutes thanks to a piece of opportunism and composure from Devine, on loan from Tottenham. Chasing a ball launched down the right flank by Pol Valentin, Devine read the situation far quicker than Leicester goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk, who charged out of his box and horribly misjudged the bounce. Devine got there first, took the ball around the stranded keeper with his initial touch and, from outside the penalty area and a tight angle, guided a measured finish into the empty net.
