Oluwo's Controversial Header Hands Salford First-Leg Lead at Grimsby

· Match Report

Salford City took a narrow lead into the second leg of their League Two play-off semi-final after hitting back to win 2-1 at Grimsby Town, with a controversial Adebola Oluwo header proving decisive in a frantic first leg.

Reece Staunton stunned the visitors with a long-range volley after just 26 seconds, but Kallum Cesay levelled within minutes and Oluwo nodded the Ammies in front before the break to swing the tie Karl Robinson's way.

Electric Opening Sets the Tone

Grimsby could hardly have asked for a better start. A ball into the Salford box was only half cleared to Staunton on the edge of the area, and the defender lofted a superb volley into the top corner inside 26 seconds to send the Mariners ahead.
