Salford City secured a third successive win in League Two with a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Newport County, Adebola Oluwo's controlled second-half volley settling a full-blooded contest at Rodney Parade.
Newport had most of the limited chances across the night but lacked quality in the final third, and a second defeat in four days extended their winless run at Rodney Parade to eight games in all competitions while Salford climbed into the automatic promotion places.
A Frantic, Even Opening
The first half was frantic and full-blooded, possession constantly changing hands as neither side managed to keep the ball for any meaningful period. Chances eventually came for the hosts, with midfielder Matt Smith seeing a shot deflected over and Bobby Kamwa heading narrowly over.
