Joe O'Brien-Whitmarsh scored in the 86th minute to give Northampton Town a 1-0 win over Newport County in League Two on Saturday, the Cobblers' first league victory of the season.
The goal came from a Newport error. Defender Cameron Evans made the mistake, the ball fell to O'Brien-Whitmarsh outside the box, and he drove a first-time shot into the bottom corner. Newport lost for the second league game running and have not tasted victory since their opening fixture.
The win arrived a day after a consortium that includes the former AC Milan, Chelsea and Brazil forward Alexandre Pato had its investment in the club approved. Pato was at Sixfields to see it.
