Delap put Burton ahead in the 21st minute, converting Jack Armer's assist. Smyth, introduced at half-time for Jack Evans, equalised in the 77th minute, assisted by Nick Tsaroulla, then completed his brace from the penalty spot in the 83rd.
Burton's Curtis Tilt was booked for a foul in the 33rd minute and sent off with a straight red for a professional foul as last man in the 82nd; Jack Armer, Sulyman Krubally and George Evans were also cautioned for Burton, who finished with four yellows and a red to Notts County's single card, Rory Finneran's 35th-minute yellow. Burton made a double substitution in the 61st minute, Notts County matched it with a double change of their own in the 65th, and both sides made further changes late on.
The win lifts Notts County to seventh in League One on five points from three games, unbeaten with a win and two draws. Burton Albion drop to 11th on four points, having won, drawn and lost once each.
