Newport County beat newly promoted Rochdale 3-0 at Rodney Parade on the opening day of the League Two season, the first league win of Hayden Mullins' spell as head coach.
Kyle Cameron opened the scoring in the 17th minute. Summer signings Shaquille Gwengwe and Yahya Bamba then extended the lead in the 37th and 90th minutes respectively, both scoring on their first Football League starts.
Rochdale held 67% of possession but did not manage a shot on target across the 90 minutes as Newport dominated. Bryant Bilongo was sent off for a second yellow card in the 65th minute, having already been booked in the 41st; Tobi Adebayo-Rowling and Luke Hannant were also cautioned for the visitors. Newport's Lee Jenkins and substitute Alfie Merritt picked up late yellow cards of their own.
"I saw good moments against Roma and Wimbledon to give me confidence that we could put that performance in," Mullins said after the match. "We know that we need to make our home ground and our home form really positive this season. The boys deserve massive credit because they went about their jobs really well today."
