Newcastle United have signed the Spanish midfielder Nico González from Manchester City. The fee is understood to be around £48m, potentially rising to £52m with add-ons.
González bid farewell to his Manchester City team-mates on Tuesday, passed a medical the following day, and was unveiled to Newcastle supporters ahead of the Carabao Cup tie against West Brom. He will wear the number six shirt at St James' Park.
He becomes Matthias Jaissle's second signing since replacing Eddie Howe as Newcastle head coach, after Amar Dedic arrived from Benfica last week. Newcastle have rebuilt their midfield this summer, having sold Sandro Tonali to Tottenham and Bruno Guimarães to Arsenal.
González had joined City from Porto for £50m in January 2025. He scored four goals in 59 appearances during his year and a half at the club, including the winner in last season's FA Cup semi-final against Southampton.
