Newcastle United have signed the Bosnia and Herzegovina international Amar Dedic from Benfica on a five-year deal, with the fee understood to be around £29.5m to £30m.
The 24-year-old full-back had a medical on Tyneside on Monday, and the move was confirmed on Tuesday, his 24th birthday. He becomes the sixth senior addition of Newcastle's summer and will wear the number 37 shirt at St James' Park.
Dedic reunites with head coach Matthias Jaissle, for whom he played at Red Bull Salzburg and Liefering and with whom he won the Austrian title in 2023. Jaissle only replaced Eddie Howe as Newcastle's head coach earlier this month, and identified Dedic as a solution to the club's shortage of senior right-backs soon after taking over.
"Working with Matthias again was a big factor for me," Dedic said. "We know each other well; he knows what I can bring to the pitch and I'm really happy to play for him again. It's a special feeling and a real honour to join Newcastle."
