Neumann and Solis Fire Birmingham Past Bristol City on Final Home Day

· Match Report

Birmingham City ended their home season with a flourish as Phil Neumann and Jhon Solis struck inside the first half to secure a 2-1 win over Bristol City in their final match at St Andrew's. The hosts' high press proved effective against a possession-dominant Robins side, and although Tomi Horvat pulled one back from a late penalty, it was too little too late.

The result confirmed a third straight win on home soil for Chris Davies' side and extended their unbeaten run to four games, while Roy Hodgson's Bristol City saw their winless streak stretch to four. It also means the Robins, who reached the play-offs last term, cannot finish above 10th-placed Birmingham, with the visitors dropping to 13th on 59 points.

Neumann Heads Birmingham in Front

It took only eight minutes for the opener to arrive. Demarai Gray, who came in for the injured Ibrahim Osman as one of three changes from the side that beat Preston in midweek, took a free-kick on the right and curled it into the box, where he found Neumann unmarked. Ten yards out, the German centre-half produced a cushioned volley that flew past Radek Vitek and into the net for his third goal of the season.
