Rotherham United beat Chesterfield 2-1 at the AESSEAL New York Stadium, substitute Paul Mullin scoring an 89th-minute winner to settle a match Rotherham led for long periods before being pegged back late on.
Fábio Tavares opened the scoring in the 11th minute. Chesterfield levelled through a Liam Mandeville penalty in the 87th, but Mullin, on for Tom Bradshaw since the 63rd minute, restored Rotherham's lead two minutes later to complete the turnaround.
Rotherham's Brandon Cover and Jili Buyabu were both booked, in the 16th and 42nd minutes respectively, while Chesterfield's Lee Bonis was cautioned before being substituted in the 59th minute. Rotherham had the better of the chances despite seeing only 31.5% of the ball, managing 14 shots to Chesterfield's seven, five of them on target against Chesterfield's two.
The win lifts Rotherham to 13th in the League Two table on four points from three games, one win, one draw and one defeat. Chesterfield slip to 16th, with three points from their three matches so far this season.
