Mohamed Salah has completed a free transfer to Trabzonspor, signing a two-year deal with the Turkish Super Lig club on Thursday. The move ends Salah's nine-year spell at Liverpool, whose hierarchy agreed with the forward to terminate his contract a year before it was due to expire.
Salah leaves Anfield as the club's third-highest goalscorer, with 257 goals in 442 appearances, having won two Premier League titles and the Champions League during his time there. His final season soured after he was repeatedly dropped by then-head coach Arne Slot. "It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus," he said in December. His departure was announced on 24 March, with Saudi Arabian clubs long considered his most likely next destination; Al Ittihad had a £150m bid for him rejected less than three years ago.
Trabzonspor, who finished third in last season's Super Lig and go into this month's Europa League play-offs, saw off a rival approach from fellow Turkish side Besiktas, whose own negotiations for Salah collapsed over the financial structure of a proposed deal. The move makes Salah the biggest signing in the history of the seven-time Turkish champions, who last won the title in 2022.
Trabzonspor disclosed the terms of the deal in a filing to the Turkish stock exchange, confirming Salah will be paid €17m (£14.5m) a season, plus a 20% share of revenue from merchandise sold under his name and performance-related bonuses. At his unveiling in Trabzon, Salah said: "I am here to win, I want to win something with this club because you showed me so much love. I appreciate that."
