Millwall seize derby control early to beat QPR and climb back into second

ยท Match Report

Millwall produced a commanding first-half display to beat Queens Park Rangers 2-0 in this London derby, with Derek Mazou-Sacko and Camiel Neghli scoring inside the opening 17 minutes. After a run of one win from their previous five games, Alex Neil's side looked intent on ending any nerves almost from the first whistle.

The home side created enough chances to win by more, while QPR spent much of the contest trying to recover from a punishing start. Joe Walsh kept the scoreline respectable with several important saves, and the visitors did improve after Julien Stephan made four half-time substitutions, but Anthony Patterson was not seriously tested until the closing stages as Millwall moved one point above Ipswich.

An early breakthrough changes the mood

Millwall came into the game having lost their last two home matches, yet any tension inside The Den was eased after only three minutes. Femi Azeez drove a low cross into the area, QPR only cleared as far as Mazou-Sacko, and the midfielder ran onto the loose ball before powering a fine finish past Walsh from just outside the box.
