Millwall beat Queens Park Rangers on penalties at Loftus Road to reach the second round of the Carabao Cup, winning a shootout 2-0 after the tie finished 1-1 following 90 minutes.
QPR goalkeeper Pierce Charles, making his competitive debut on loan from Manchester City, fumbled a left-wing cross from Camiel Neghli in the 52nd minute, and Luke Cundle tapped in from close range to put Millwall ahead. QPR levelled in the 85th minute when Jimmy Dunne's header from an Ilias Chair corner went in off Millwall's Mark Sykes, sending the tie to penalties.
Millwall goalkeeper Lukas Jensen saved all four QPR penalties in the shootout, denying Chair, Harvey Vale, Koki Saito and Kwame Poku in turn. Jake Cooper and Sykes scored Millwall's first two kicks, before Neghli and Taïryk Arconte missed their last two, sending Millwall through 2-0 on kicks. Charles saved two of Millwall's penalties but could not prevent the defeat.
Millwall manager Alex Neil said Jensen, playing his first match after a 15-month injury lay-off, deserved his moment. "To save four penalties is really, really rare," Neil said. "And to put in the context behind that, Lukas has been missing for 15 months: he had a bad injury and then came back and had a setback. I think he would have been dreaming about that moment for 15 months, making four penalty saves and being the reason we're through to the next round."
