Liam Millar marked his first start in just under a year with a spectacular early goal as Hull City beat Leicester City 2-1 at the MKM Stadium, securing a third consecutive Championship victory and strengthening their push towards the play-off race.
The Canada international, back from a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury, struck after just six minutes before Joe Gelhardt added what proved to be the winner midway through the first half. Substitute Aaron Ramsey pulled one back with a stunning strike and Harry Winks crashed a stoppage-time effort against the crossbar, but Hull held on to climb to seventh, while Leicester slipped to eighth and out of the play-off picture.
Ferocious Hull start stuns promotion favourites
Hull flew out of the blocks against opponents widely regarded as promotion favourites. Inside four minutes Regan Slater forced Jakub Stolarczyk into action, the Leicester goalkeeper springing to his right to tip a low drive onto the post as the Tigers immediately set the tone. Moments later Millar swung in an inviting cross that reached Kyle Joseph, whose near-post effort was smothered by Stolarczyk at the second attempt.
