Hull City produced a ruthless away performance to sweep aside play-off chasing Preston North End 3-0, with former Lilywhites loanee Liam Millar setting the tone against his old club. Akin Famewo's emphatic strike on the stroke of half-time and an acrobatic Oli McBurnie finish early in the second period completed a comprehensive victory that also featured a late red card for Preston substitute Milutin Osmajic.
For long spells it was a night defined by Preston's sloppiness and Hull's clinical edge. Paul Heckingbottom's side briefly looked to have settled after a sluggish start, but an over-ambitious corner routine on 33 minutes left them brutally exposed on the counter, and they never truly recovered as Sergej Jakirovic's men repeatedly punished defensive uncertainty.
Preston's manager responded with a triple substitution at the interval in search of a route back into the game, yet Hull instead extended their lead through McBurnie's bicycle kick, his 10th league goal of the season, after a superb pass from debutant Yu Hirakawa. From there the visitors controlled proceedings, created the better chances and, aside from isolated efforts from Jordan Storey and Alfie Devine, rarely looked in danger of surrendering their advantage before tempers flared deep into stoppage time.
