Midtjylland weather the storm as Cho stuns wasteful Nottingham Forest

— Match Report

Substitute Cho Gue-sung punished Nottingham Forest for their wasteful finishing with a late header to hand FC Midtjylland a 1-0 advantage in their Europa League last-16 first-leg tie at a rain-lashed City Ground.

Forest dominated for long periods in difficult conditions, racking up 22 attempts and an expected goals tally of 1.7, but were undone by the Danish side's ruthlessness with 10 minutes to play. Ticket prices had been cut twice during the week to entice a capacity crowd, only for the night to end with boos echoing down to the River Trent.

An early let-off in driving rain

The visitors were quickest out of the blocks. In the third minute, Philip Billing — the former Bournemouth midfielder — crossed from the byline on Forest's left and Junior Brumado, unmarked, headed past Matz Sels. Murillo's clearance off the line spared the home side, but the relief was short-lived as Jair Cunha had to limp off in the ninth minute after rolling an ankle.
