Middlesbrough beat Doncaster Rovers 3-1 at Club Doncaster Sports Village in round three of the League Cup.

Kyle Joseph put the visitors ahead in the 33rd minute. Joseph was substituted in the 71st minute, replaced by Will Lankshear, who scored six minutes later to make it 2-0. Jeremy Sarmiento added a third in the 86th minute. Isaac Hutchinson pulled a goal back for Doncaster in the 91st minute.

Middlesbrough had 66% of possession and outshot Doncaster 24 attempts to 12, eight on target to five, and won seven corners to Doncaster's one.

Four players were booked, all for fouls: Doncaster's Robbie Gotts in the 25th minute, Middlesbrough's Myles Peart-Harris and Neto Borges both in the 45th minute, and Doncaster's George Broadbent in the 76th minute. No player was sent off.
