Mephams 95th-Minute Equaliser Denies Derby at Pride Park

ยท Match Report

Chris Mephams dramatic 95th-minute header rescued a 1-1 draw for West Bromwich Albion at Derby County, snatching a point that ended the Baggies miserable run of 10 consecutive away defeats in the Championship. The late leveller denied Derby what would have been a third straight victory and cost them the chance to move into the play-off places for the first time since August 2019.

Patrick Agyemang had earlier put Derby in front with the home sides first shot of the contest, punishing a costly error on debut from West Brom goalkeeper Max OLeary right on the stroke of half-time. Derby twice went close to doubling their lead through Ben Brereton Diaz after the interval, but Albions persistence on the front foot was finally rewarded in stoppage time as a flurry of chances culminated in Mepham forcing the ball over the line from a corner.

Derby Strike First After Baggies Bright Start

West Brom arrived at Pride Park under pressure after a heavy midweek defeat to Norwich City and a run of four games without a point, but Eric Ramsays side initially responded with purpose. Jayson Molumby tested Jacob Widell Zetterstrom from outside the area, although the Derby goalkeeper gathered comfortably, before defender George Campbell glanced a header narrowly wide as the visitors carried more of the early threat.
