Oli McBurnie’s second-half brace hauled Hull City back from 2-0 down to earn a 2-2 draw against Preston North End at the MKM Stadium, after the visitors had raced into a commanding early lead. Thierry Small and Michael Smith struck inside the opening 10 minutes to put the Lilywhites in control, only for Hull’s in-form striker to turn the contest on its head after the break.
Rejuvenated by a triple half-time substitution and a change of attitude, Hull found a route back through two almost carbon-copy goals, both supplied by Ryan Giles from the left. Both sides then had chances to snatch victory late on, but goalkeepers Ivor Pandur and Daniel Iversen ensured the points were shared in a breathless finale.
Preston Blitz Hull With Two Goals Inside 10 Minutes
Preston arrived in East Yorkshire as one of the early surprise packages of the campaign, having avoided relegation by just a single point last season but now riding high on the back of a miserly defence. They made a flying start and were ahead after only three minutes, when Alfie Devine’s inswinging corner caused chaos in the Hull box. Lewie Coyle could only head the ball out as far as Thierry Small, who took a touch and speared a low drive across Pandur and into the far corner for his first goal in a Preston shirt.
