Mbeumo at the double as Manchester United survive Brighton’s late surge in a 4-2 thriller
Manchester United claimed a third successive Premier League win for the first time since February 2024, beating Brighton 4-2 in a frenetic contest at Old Trafford. They rose into the top four on a night that veered from cruise control at 3-0 to alarm at 3-2 deep in added time, before Bryan Mbeumo’s second goal finally drained the tension.
Matheus Cunha’s first for the club, a heavily deflected Casemiro strike, and a crisp Mbeumo finish had United clear after an hour. But Danny Welbeck’s superb free-kick and Charalampos Kostoulas’s added-time header, supplied by James Milner’s corner, turned comfort into jeopardy. Only in the 96th minute did Mbeumo settle it, rifling into the roof of the net to end Brighton’s fight-back.
