Marmoush double sinks Newcastle as Manchester City storm into Carabao Cup final with Arsenal

— Match Report

Manchester City booked a tantalising Carabao Cup final against Premier League leaders Arsenal by hammering holders Newcastle 5-1 on aggregate in a one-sided semi-final. Two Omar Marmoush goals and a Tijjani Reijnders strike inside the first half ended Eddie Howe's side's defence of the trophy embarrassingly at the Etihad Stadium.

Trailing 2-0 from the first leg, Newcastle needed something special but instead endured the worst possible start. Anthony Elanga eventually pulled one back on 62 minutes, but by then the tie was a lost cause as Pep Guardiola's side confirmed their place in the final on Sunday, 22 March at Wembley Stadium.

Marmoush deflection sets the tone

City struck inside seven minutes. Reijnders fed Marmoush down the left and as Dan Burn raced across to slide tackle, the ball ricocheted off the Egyptian's leg and looped over the helpless Aaron Ramsdale and in. Guardiola skipped in jubilation as his side's control tightened.
