A Bruno Fernandes hat-trick carried Manchester United from a goal down to a 5-2 win over Ipswich Town at Old Trafford, their first victory of the Premier League season and a pointed answer to the 2-0 defeat at Hull City a week earlier.
Leif Davis put Ipswich ahead in the 28th minute, but Fernandes levelled in the 39th and United then scored three times between the 55th and 67th minutes: a Jacob Greaves own goal, a Fernandes penalty and Fernandes's third. Bryan Mbeumo added a fifth in the 81st minute, and Chuba Akpom scored for Ipswich in the 90th.
The result lifts United to 10th in the table and leaves Ipswich 12th, both on three points from two games. It was United's first five-goal league game since the opening day of 2021-22, when they beat Leeds 5-1 at home and Fernandes also scored three.
