Donyell Malen scored twice as Aston Villa moved closer to automatic qualification for the Europa League knockouts with a comfortable victory over Young Boys, on a night when the contest on the pitch was overshadowed by serious crowd trouble in the away end.
The Dutch forward struck either side of half-time to make it a seventh successive home win for Unai Emery's side. Joel Monteiro pulled one back in the 90th minute, but only after Chris Bedia had a goal chalked off following a long VAR check.
Malen Punishes the Visitors
Villa pressed from the first whistle, Marvin Keller tipping over a brilliant 25-yard strike from Morgan Rogers inside four minutes, before Evann Guessand and Amadou Onana also threatened. The breakthrough arrived in the 27th minute when Malen powered in a header from Youri Tielemans' fine cross, a move involving eight players.
