Norwich City's revival under Philippe Clement gathered further momentum as Jovon Makama's second-half winner secured a 2-1 victory at Stok Cae Ras and brought a halt to Wrexham's impressive home form. Anis Ben Slimane had given Norwich an early lead before in-form striker Sam Smith levelled, and after a lengthy second-half delay for a medical emergency in the crowd, Makama struck decisively to settle a finely balanced Championship contest.
The result ended Wrexham's five-game winning run in all competitions, including four successive league wins, and snapped a 10-game unbeaten home league sequence that stretched back to 13 September. Norwich, meanwhile, extended their unbeaten away run in the Championship to four matches and, despite remaining in the relegation zone, moved to within a point of Blackburn and Portsmouth in 22nd. On the first league meeting between these sides in north Wales since September 1981, it was the Canaries who found the clinical edge when it mattered most.
Ahmed's dream debut sparks perfect Norwich start
Phil Parkinson had warned before kick-off that Norwich would be a very different proposition from the side Wrexham beat 3-2 at Carrow Road in September, and the visitors underlined that point almost immediately. Clement handed a debut to Ali Ahmed after his arrival from Vancouver Whitecaps earlier in the month, and the Canadian winger wasted little time announcing himself. In the ninth minute he took Pelle Mattsson's pass in his stride down the flank and picked out Slimane inside the box, the Tunisia international calmly side-footing beyond Arthur Okonkwo from around 12 yards to claim his first goal of the season.
