Noni Madueke turned an unexpected start into a statement performance as Arsenal brushed aside Leeds United 4-0 at Elland Road to move seven points clear at the top of the Premier League. Drafted in just minutes before kick-off after Bukayo Saka suffered a hip problem in the warm-up, the winger produced two first-half assists as the league leaders recorded their first top-flight win in four matches.
Leeds, beaten at home in the league only twice before this game, began brightly in front of an Elland Road crowd in full voice. But once Arsenal settled, they pinned Daniel Farke's side back, struck twice from Madueke deliveries and then added further goals from Viktor Gyokeres and substitute Gabriel Jesus to underline their title credentials and leave Leeds looking over their shoulders at the relegation battle.
Late Call, Big Impact: Madueke Makes His Mark
Madueke was not supposed to be on the teamsheet from the start. He remained a substitute until around 10 minutes before kick-off, when Saka limped out of the warm-up with a hip injury. Thrust into the spotlight and having struggled to produce his best football this season, the 23-year-old responded with exactly the kind of display Arsenal and Mikel Arteta needed.
