Liverpool produced an outstanding performance to beat Real Madrid 1-0 at Anfield, Alexis Mac Allister's second-half header settling a Champions League night dominated by Arne Slot's side.
The scoreline flattered the visitors. Only the brilliance of Thibaut Courtois kept Real in the contest, while Xabi Alonso's team, top of LaLiga, never really came close to finding an equaliser. Liverpool, building on Saturday's win against Aston Villa, ended a run of six defeats in seven games and climbed the Champions League table.
Slot's side back to their best
Liverpool started on the front foot and Real did not get out of their half for the first five minutes. Florian Wirtz, recalled to the side, dispossessed Dean Huijsen near the corner flag to create the first chance, only for Mac Allister to side-foot over.
