Wells put Luton ahead in the 42nd minute, Benagr doubled the lead in the 58th, and Kodua, on as a substitute for Benagr just nine minutes earlier, added a third in the 77th.
Luton controlled the game throughout, taking 65.8% of possession to Gillingham's 34.2% and firing 17 attempts on goal to the hosts' seven, 11 of them on target against two; Luton also won the corner count 9-2. Gillingham's Zane Albarus was shown a yellow card in the 48th minute, and Luton's Shayden Morris, himself on as a substitute in the 67th, was booked in the 87th.
Gillingham made wholesale second-half changes, sending on five substitutes between the 66th and 67th minutes: Sullivan Booth, Harry Waldock, Will Goodwin, Sheldon Kendall and Conor McManus all introduced, with Kendall withdrawn again in stoppage time. Luton also refreshed their side, Kasey Palmer replacing Jayden Luker at half-time and three further changes made in the 68th minute, including Kodua's introduction for the eventual third goal.
